A Family's First Visit (coming soon) to the brown county pump track & dirt jump park

Deer Run Park, Nashville, IN

by Kate Nolan

There’s something exciting on the horizon in Brown County — the brand-new Pump Track and Skills Park at Deer Run Park is set to open in November 2025! This long-anticipated addition will give local families, visitors, and riders of all levels a new way to get outside and experience the thrill of biking together.

While we’re counting down the days until the grand opening, here’s what to expect — and how to get your family ready to roll safely and confidently.

Rolling Into the Track

Imagine pulling into Deer Run Park on a crisp fall morning — bikes loaded, helmets buckled, and smiles all around. The new pump track’s smooth rollers and sweeping turns are designed to make riding fun and accessible for everyone, from balance-bike beginners to seasoned mountain bikers. It’s all about learning to use your body’s momentum (“pumping”) to glide through the course without pedaling — a challenge that’s equal parts fun and skill-building.

Then there’s the dirt jump area, with progressive jump lines so riders can advance at their own pace. Beginners can build confidence on smaller tabletops, while more experienced riders can test their limits on bigger features.

Safety First: Helmets and Protective Gear for Every Rider

No matter your age or experience, protective gear is essential — not optional — when riding the pump track or dirt jumps. Here’s what we recommend for all riders:

Helmets

  • A properly fitted helmet is a must for everyone.

  • Choose a certified mountain bike or BMX helmet for full coverage and impact protection.

  • Younger riders or those on jump lines should consider a full-face helmet for added chin and face protection.

  • Make sure it sits level, snug, and doesn’t rock side to side.

  • Our kids pictured below, Asher (6) and Knox (4) in their full face Troy Lee Designs helmets.

Pads & Gloves

  • Knee and elbow pads help protect against scrapes and impact on falls — especially for beginners or kids.

  • Gloves improve grip, prevent blisters, and protect your hands if you take a spill.

Shoes & Clothing

  • Closed-toe, flat-soled shoes (like skate or mountain bike shoes) give the best traction on pedals.

  • Avoid loose clothing that could catch on handlebars or pedals.

  • A lightweight long-sleeve jersey or hoodie is great for cooler fall riding.

Other Essentials

  • Bring water, snacks, and sunscreen — riding is more physical than it looks!

  • A small first-aid kit is never a bad idea for families.

Brown County Bikes in downtown Nashville carries a full range of helmets, pads, gloves, and family-friendly bike gear — and their team can help make sure everything fits properly before you hit the track.

Why Families Will Love It

The Brown County Pump Track and Dirt Jump Park is designed to bring people together. It’s a place where kids can learn, parents can join in, and everyone can encourage one another. You’ll see plenty of smiles, high-fives, and laughter — plus a few dusty faces by the end of the day.

With its location inside Deer Run Park, you can make a full day of it — ride, picnic, play, and explore nearby downtown Nashville for post-ride treats.

Tips for Your First Visit in November

  • Check your bikes beforehand — air pressure, brakes, and chain tension.

  • Dress for fall weather — mornings can be cool, afternoons warm.

  • Follow the flow of the track and be mindful of others.

  • Start small, progress gradually, and celebrate the wins.

  • Respect the park and help keep it clean for everyone to enjoy.
