After years of dreaming, planning, fundraising, and community collaboration, the Brown County Pump Track is officially ready to ride! We’re thrilled to invite you to the Grand Opening on Sunday, December 15th at 4:00 PM at Deer Run Park.
Bring your bike, your helmet, your family, and your stoke level—because this is going to be a celebration of community, progression, and play.
A First of Its Kind in the Area
This isn’t just any pump track. The new Brown County Pump Track features:
- A fully paved concrete track designed for smooth, fast laps in any season
- A stunning steel-and-cedar flyover bridge, offering a unique elevated riding experience
- A steel-and-cedar drop-in zone feeding directly into the jump line
- Lines for every level—beginner-friendly rollers to advanced jump features
Built to be durable, rideable year-round, and welcoming to riders of all ages, this track is going to become a new gathering place for the biking community in Brown County and beyond.
Tips for Winter Riding on the Pump Track
The beauty of a paved pump track is that it rides great in cold weather—but winter riding still calls for a few smart habits.
1. Dress in layers (but avoid bulky clothing).
Pump tracks are high-intensity. Start warm but not overheated—thin base layers, a wind-blocking shell, and gloves make a big difference.
2. Wear good gloves with grip.
Cold hands = poor control. Choose gloves with traction, insulation, and moisture resistance.
3. Watch for frost or damp patches.
Concrete can get slick when temps fluctuate. Early morning shade can hold moisture. Take a few warm-up laps to feel things out.
4. Lower your tire pressure slightly.
A little extra traction helps when it’s cold (2–3 PSI less than summer riding).
5. Move around and keep your body warm.
Pump tracks use your whole body. Keep muscles warm between runs—shake out your arms, stretch your legs, stay moving.
Tips for Riding with Big Groups on the Pump Track
Grand openings (and weekends!) will bring big energy and big crowds. Here’s how to keep it safe and fun:
1. Pre-Ride, Re-Ride, Free Ride.
Pre-Ride the track at a slow, easy pace to feel it out, see if there’s any slick spots, etc. Re-Ride – Loosen up your body and get more comfortable with the track and how it’s flowing, make sure your bike is dialed Free Ride – now you’re ready to send it, have fun!
2. Ride in the same direction as everyone else.
Pump tracks flow. Make sure you’re entering in the correct direction so riders don’t collide.
3. Form a line and take turns.
One rider drops in ? clears a section ? next rider goes.
This keeps a smooth rhythm and avoids pile-ups.
4. Communicate clearly.
A simple “Dropping!” or “You go ahead!” works wonders. Kids especially benefit from modeled communication.
5. Respect skill levels.
If you’re learning, no pressure—take your time. If you’re advanced, give newer riders space and encouragement.
6. Stay off features you’re not ready for.
The steel-and-cedar drop-in and jump line are incredible—but they’re designed for confident riders with experience. Always follow safe progression.
7. Celebrate the vibe.
Cheer people on. High-fives. Encourage kids. Lift others up. A pump track is a social space—and Brown County’s is built to bring riders together.
